We have been practising some great Oral Language this term and one of the ways we talk to each other is using the Donut Circle. Two circles are formed and the children sit opposite each other with knees together. A topic is announced and each person has a minute to discuss that topic. Donut circle can be used for many things eg to prepare for writing, to practice listening and speaking skills, to share work and to give and receive opinions. We have been practising all of these. Here are your kids in a donut circle sharing their writing and giving peer feedback on their buddy's work.
There was a lot of talking, listening and sharing and it gave them an opportunity to reread their stories to another audience. We are a very attentive bunch.
We have also been learning how to use a brainstorm to help us write. The ideas are all jotted down on a whiteboard or scrap paper and then those ideas are turned into sentences to form a story. This is not easy but we are working hard. Here are some first attempts at brainstorming....
